Are Psychics Evil?
No. Full stop. Psychics aren’t especially prone to being evil.
But let’s go further with this question because it’s a fair question to ask - will seeing a psychic harm me? Are psychics especially dangerous? Will I become weakened or vulnerable if I see a psychic?
It’s possible. Yes, you might be exploited by a psychic. Yes, there’s a chance of emotional, psychological or spiritual injury.
Why, as I professional psychic, would I admit this? As I write I undermine my self-interest. I malign my field. I validate the worries of the naysayers who would discourage divination in our personal lives.
I admit to the potential harm of psychics because it’s real. As real as seeing an unethical lawyer. As real as the unprincipled plastic surgeon or attending the service of a corrupt religious leader. Where there are humans there is the capacity to harm, to dominate, and to violate. Each of us, including psychics, are born with capacities to love and to hate. It’s the work of this lifetime to observe our contradictions, to probe at our paradoxes and see how we harm those in our orbit. I navigate a landscape of blind corners, obstacles and mirages in pursuit of satisfaction and happiness and along the way I have harmed. Rarely was it intentional but it occurred and occurred and occurred.
What Is Evil?
Contrast that with the harm caused through intentional acts of deceit, manipulation and dominance. The temptation to exploit and misdirect, profit from confusion, enrich oneself off the backs of trusting and hopeful souls. I’d be lying to you if I told you all psychics are virtuous and operate in service to a higher calling. That’s hogwash. There are psychics that pursue fame, money and eminence. Feeling important intoxicates the soul. So yes, I admit, there is potential to be harmed should you come across the path of this psychic. Psychics are born human and in that condition that are not more or less prone to evil than you or your family. Their morality is shaped long before they begin their psychic practice.
But I urge you to consider the evil practiced in other professions. Surgeons that permanently maim patients through unnecessary procedures. Insurance companies that deny coverage. Corrupt religions that perpetuate harm against children. Politicians and leaders that facilitate genocide.
Rather than ask, “Are psychics evil?” Instead ask what are the markers of a principled psychic? What does a trustworthy psychic look like? Are they transparent? Do they show care for you and your wellbeing? Do they discuss the ethics of their profession? Yes, there is evil, in many fields and on many faces but there are psychics, like myself and like professional associations for psychics, that labor to educate and inform the public on finding principled, ethical psychics.
I ask you to consider the first time you heard messaging about psychics being evil. Perhaps in church? The pastor who reads from the Bible and discourages outside sources of divination. I go on to ask you though to consider ownership of divination. Who possesses the authority to approve divination? Is it reserved for holy men in their jets and mega churches?
Maybe it was the skeptic in your life with their broad dismissal of psychic intelligence as an impossible phenomena. Of course, they have no explanation themselves except the dull argument that Earth is a cog in a mechanistic universe clicking through its orbit towards planetary death as it becomes the next snack for our galactic black hole. The skeptic’s rejection of psychic intelligence rests less on morality and more on the superiority of the modern, rational brain. Skeptics are the last group I’d consult for a discussion on morality and evil.
Divination hasn’t always been maligned. It was a cornerstone practice in pagan religions and stretches back to the first intelligent skywatchers that say correspondence between sky phenomena and fortune.
It’s appealing to write off an entire group as evil, yes? There are bills to pay, sick children and difficult bosses. The labor of research and curiosity is tiresome for most, which makes it easy to believe psychics are evil because the only way to definitely answer that question is to experience a psychic and see how you are treated. You must set aside space in your mind to define evil, describe it, recall when you’ve seen in in your life, separate the image of evil from movies and fiction into lived experience. Evil dehumanizes. Evil hardens. Evil separates and alienates through fear and mistrust. How have you experienced that sensation of evil?
Evil isn’t indigenous to psychics. Evil is ambient. Evil is opportunistic. Evil is in the waiting room of many professions and it’s up to you to develop discernment.
The only way to protect yourself from this evil is to cultivate a practice of discernment. What feels supportive and life-affirming to you? What warms the heart and makes you feel lighter? Where do you feel seen and witnessed, and in turn, offer that to others? There are psychics that support this path and I wish you well in that journey of discovery.
