It's Time to Party! Party Planning with a "Fortune Teller"

 

Requests for Halloween and October parties are rolling in and I’ve pulled together a simple guide for hiring a psychic for your event. Working with a professional psychic helps your event run smoothly and here’s what my clients experience when they book an event with me.

OVERVIEW OF PSYCHIC SERVICES FOR AN EVENT

When contacted about an event I explain, in writing, the scope of my services and what I include in the event booking. I describe that guests can expect to receive one-on-one readings but also explain that I can mingle with guests for more relaxed conversational readings. In my experience people are generally curious about psychic phenomena and are eager to ask, “Can you tell me what seeing numbers mean?” or “I’ve been having these crazy dreams can you help me understand them?” I suggest to the host that we create a semi-private reading space for one-on-one readings while also mingling with guests where I can introduce myself and answer general questions.

I actually really love talking with guests and answering their questions. More and more people accept intuition as a valid form of intelligence and they’re curious to learn more about it. Parties and small gatherings are the perfect setting to talk to a psychic and get personal attention.

For many people a party is the first time the get to meet a psychic and I work with the host to create a positive experience at the party. Keep in mind, you’re not only paying for a professional with training in psychic phenomena but you’re also hiring a professional that knows how to participate in social functions.

HOW MUCH TIME TO RESERVE A PSYCHIC FOR YOUR EVENT

After explaining the scope of services we move to discuss the amount of time needed to reserve the psychic for your party. Here are a few considerations when determining the amount of time needed for your guests to have a great psychic experience:

  1. Know the headcount for your party.

  2. Is it important that each guest receives a reading? If not, how many guests will be interested in seeing the psychic?

  3. Are you okay with guests having a one-on-one experience with the psychic? Do you prefer a lighter touch where the psychic mingles with the guests and provides on the spot readings?

  4. Do you and your guests enjoy hearing about psychic phenomena? Do you have general questions about the meaning of dreams, weird coincidences in your life? Are you generally curious about how it all works?

Since we’ll be in a fun and festive setting I tend to limit one-on-pne readings to 15 minutes maximum. 15 minutes allows a guest to either ask a question or get a general reading. 15 minutes allows for a nice sit while keeping the guests moving so no one feels like they’re absent from the party for too long. Alternatively, readings can be as short as 5 minutes where the aim is to have spontaneity and provocative experiences. You will have guests that are happy with an 8 minute reading while some guests won’t want to leave their chair. I’m mindful to protect the party vibe of the event while also managing those waiting for their reading.

Here are a few examples from different bookings in the past year:

  • Three hour party with 10-12 guests allowed for 15 minute readings where I could spend more time if guests had follow up questions

  • Two hour party hosted in public spaces, e.g. cocktail bar, with over 50 guests allows for a portion of the guests to get a reading

  • Two hour event with a small gathering of four friends. This was the perfect duration for a conversational, group experience where I read I read for each guests and answered their general questions. Each guest received 20 - 25 minutes of personalized psychic reading and we alternated with chatting about their intuition and how to work with psychic intelligence.

If you’re hosting more than 12 guests I recommend two and half hours or more. I also recommend a sign up sheet if you anticipate that guests are eager to get a reading. A sign up sheet takes the pressure off of guests to hop in the reading chair and let’s them mingle in the party stress-free.

HOW MUCH FOR THE FORTUNE TELLER?

Since Fall is the peak season prices for events reflect that higher demand. If I’m booked during October, on the weekend, and in the evening then the quote is higher than a summer daytime event. In October 2022, a two hour event is an estimated $300 and varies pending event location and time of the event. Expect to pay more if you’re reserving a psychic in a larger metro area like Atlanta, New York, or Los Angeles.

PAYING FOR YOUR HIRED PSYCHIC

Be prepared to pay a 50% deposit to reserve your event and guarantee I’m available on the contracted date. I currently have five pending requests but only the ones that have paid the deposit are guaranteed my attendance. Deposits protect both the host and the psychic. For the host it guarantees the psychic is available for the contracted event and for the professional psychic it ensures the host follows through on their commitment to hire. Last-minute cancellations are a financial hardship for psychics because it’s difficult to secure a replacement event in a limited amount of time. Hosts should plan to forfeit their deposit if they change their mind about hiring a psychic or cancel their event. As with most other consultative fields the policy is used to discourage cancellations and ensure the psychic practitioner isn’t financially harmed by changing circumstances.

My terms require a seven day written notice for the deposit to be fully refunded. If a cancellation occurs within seven days of the event the deposit is forfeited by the host. This protects me from losing out on paid opportunities during a busy season. A professional psychic will explain their terms in a straightforward manner and I include these conditions on the invoice. Before you pay your deposit make sure you as the host understand the refund policy and that you have it in writing.

Once the details are confirmed I provide two invoices to the host. The first invoice is for the 50% deposit and the second invoice is for the remaining balance. I require pre-payment and accept payment through the credit card processor Stripe as well as conventional payment apps like PayPal, CashApp, Venmo or Apple Pay..

Once the deposit is paid a receipt is provided along with with the second invoice. Included in my quote is support leading up to the event.

If you’ve planned a wedding, baby shower or graduation party then hiring a professional psychic is very similar to hiring a florist, band or catering company. Start with your headcount, think about what kind of psychic experience you want for your guests then finalize the amount of time you’d like to reserve. A professional psychic will make themselves available to answer your questions, walk you through the process and will record the details and policies in writing. It’s one thing to be psychic but it’s a special thing to work with a psychic that can make your party memorable.
